ACCEPTANCE FORGIVENESS GRATITUDE

I watch too much tv

Since becoming involved with Justin, I now watch entirely too much television. I hate it. Yet, I can’t stop myself. I have a show to watch nearly every night of the week. I have DVR for when I’m not able to be home to watch “my shows”. Sometimes I even watch shows online when my DVR can’t record it because it’s already recording two other shows.

SERIOUSLY?!?!

This is not who I’m supposed to be. I intentionally refused to own a television for a year when I was 21. After that, I rarely had cable unless the roommates I moved in with already had it. I was never a regular tv watcher and didn’t care if I missed an episode of One Tree Hill. I’d just watch it on DVD like a year later.

I know having a kid takes it’s toll on your social life but there are plenty of kid-friendly activities we could be doing with the television off. Just this morning I turned off the damned idiot box and we made pretend dishes with Lily’s kitchen set. It was so heartwarming and filled with smiles and giggles.

It’s not possible to make the transition back to no-tv land considering Justin is moderately obsessed with all things television related. It would take more than an act of Congress to convince him that the tv is frying his brain. BUT, there has to be a better balance for Lily and me.

Have any of you had this happen in your life? How did you get back on track?
